Excellent Adventure 1 "Moon the Train"

30th Annual Moon Amtrak
Laguna Niguel, CA

History: Every year since 1999, on the second Saturday in July, thousands have gathered across the street from "Mugs Away" saloon in Laguna Niguel to drop their drawers, bare their bottoms and moon the passing Amtrak commuter trains.

And... over the years... word spread and the crowds started to grow...

It was a 12-hour, all-day-long "wilder-by-the-minute" parte'.

Along with this went lots of drinking, fooling around and general rowdiness...

and okay, with a little extra nudity thrown in here and there.

As a result, the city government decided it was time to put a lid on all the fun. Here's how the local papers reported it:

“Laguna Niguel aims to tame mooning ritual.”

Laguna Niguel’s City Council has voted to bring “some order” to the event, by “cordoning off the mooning grounds, restricting parking, and banning drinking and urinating in public.”

In spite of that, we decided to tool-on-down to buttsville to "join the thong"... uh, throng.

So, about 12-noon... we headed for the infamous Mugs Away Saloon...

But, upon arrival... "yikes"... it was all squad cars, SWAT teams and cops on horses, motorcycles, scooters and on foot.

and instead of the usual 10,000 or so mooners... it was more like maybe 50...

Dullsville... still there were a few sights worth seeing...

While there... we asked a cop to take our picture (honest)...

"Don't shoot... I mean, okay shoot... but just with the camera..."

"Sure I know what handcuffs are... why do you ask?"

Party's over... and it's time to exit stage left... "See ya..."
we headed for San Juan Capistrano and Swallows Inn...

San Juan Capistrano (one block from the famous Mission)

Swallows Inn... a rowdy country & western biker bar...
Now we're talkin'...

After a few... upon heading out... we noticed two cuties standing next to us on the curb...

They were taking a smoke break from a wedding party...

and they became our photographer-ettes for this shot... (click)... (why weren't these two at the moon fest?).

Then... off to Marie Callendar's for a late lunch/early dinner...

And...as the sun slowly began setting over the beautiful blue ocean...

we headed back home down California 1...
Pacific Coast Highway.

It may not have been the rockem' sockem' gazillion person bare-butt extravaganza we were looking for... but hey, it was a great day and certainly lot's of fun for our very first "numero uno" Excellent Adventure...

"Stay tuned... more soon"
